Sgt. Major: "My First Hurricane"

(Revised 10.05.05) Here are a few pics of Sgt. Major that I took during the huuricane.
This was Sgt. Major's first hurricane and had it just been the two of us, he would have thought it was heaven. Five full-days with nothing to do but "try" to sleep in his mamma's lap all day would have made him a happy camper. However, my family came to stay with us having been detoured from their original travel plans.
Sgt. Major usually has full run of the house with the exception of the office/guest bedroom, but his roaming range was cut short because my young cousin came to stay. As much as Sgt. Major enjoyed trying to outmaneuver my aunt and grandmother for a chance to play with Benjamin, it took him a while to get used to the crying. The first night he barked everytime Benjamin cried, which is unusual for him because barking requires too much energy. After the first night, my aunt, grandmother and the baby slept in the master bedroom and the puppy and I braved the livingroom's hot sofa. After this point, weather night or day, when Banjamin began to cry, Sgt. Major retreated to his kennel. He tried to put up a fight to see what the noise was all about, but it got old for him real quick considering he hasn't spent any time around babies.
When he was awake, he watched the storm out the back window from his "spot" behind the sofa. The wall and the back of the sofa make a little niche that he likes to nap in sometimes. He was also able to stay out from all the traffic that four adults make in our small house.
For the most part he just played with his toys. Sometimes his curiousity got the best of him and he tried to get into the "closed off areas" where Benjamin played. But then again Benjamin was always trying to get out to see the puppy, so it was pretty much a two-sided interest.
Once the storm was over, he enjoyed exploring the tree limbs that had fallen into our yard and watching our neighbors from the hole in the fence where we lost a board.
